Orlando is a very beautiful city and one of the local gems of the city is Lake Eola. Lake Eola is a 23 acre sinkhole lake that is surrounded by a park in Downtown Orlando. In the sinkhole area, which is located just North of the famous fountain, the lake reaches depths of 80 feet. In the lake is a fountain that has become the unoffical city symbol. At night the fountain lights up and the colors change producing a subtile light show. This is the perfect place to watch the sunset behind the Orlando Skyline, the colors of the sky and the reflections off the the buildings produce an awesome experience.
From the first time I set foot at Lake Eola, I was in love with it. With the skyline surrounding this urban park, Lake Eola is a very popular place for the locals and the tourist. Here you will find families enjoying the lake and it’s live swans and birds, walking dogs, excersizing and just enjoying Orlando life.
If you are coming to see the sunset, there are a lot of great resturants in the area. If you want to grab a sandwich and sit by the lake, you can visit Panera Bread on the East side of the lake. If you would rather sit down on an outdoor patio you could visit 310 Lakeside [Link] on the southside or actually eat in the park at the Relax Café on the Northwest Side of the Park.
Lake Eola is also home to the Walt Disney Amphitheater, which host concerts and plays. Other activities at the park include the ability to rent swan shaped paddle and electric gondola boats.
And if you are looking for a great place to take that family portrait discussed in #1 [Link], this would be a great place to have it taken, see the pictures below.
So make plans to head down to Lake Eola, feed the swans, rent a swan paddle boat and watch a beautiful sunset on the Orlando skyline, it’s fun, Free (not the boat) and a cool thing to do in Orlando.
