Universal Studios / Islands of Adventure vacation travel dates?

My husband and I are planning a vacation to Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure in Orlando, FL. I’ve been a few times, but he’s never been! The few times I went was with a church youth group. We went every February. The weather was great, just a tad bit chilly, yet warm enough to wear short sleeves. It seems that the times we went in February, it was not crowded at all! So we’re planning it around that time, but does anyone else have an opinion (from experience) on when to go to avoid huge crowds and lines??

  1. We have also been in early march and it was very light crowds! I like to stay on property so we get the front of the line access! My travel agent just sent me a universal promotion – she is great at finding me the best deals! If you would like her contact info let me know!

After the first week of January till Presidents Day weekend in February you will normally find light crowd levels. Other light crowd times are the first two weeks of November and the first two weeks of December.

Pretty much avoid holidays and summer. Early spring (around March) is nice and you can usually ride some water rides as well. I’ve also found September to be nice :)

Did you go to the Islands of Adventure before the opening of the Harry Potter attraction?. Since that opening the crowds are MUCH larger. Most of February should still be not too crowded. Not much rain and weather very variable.

  5. Yes, February is still a good choice. Just avoid the days around President’s Day, because some school systems build in a few days of break around then. Other than that, it’s just like you said. Weather can be cold or hot, but is usually fairly mild. Might need long sleeves in the evening or a light jacket. Usually very low crowds.

It should take you about a day at each park to thoroughly cover them. If you are interested while you are going to be there, Disney crowds will be similar. It’s a good time to go there, too, if you are interested in trying something new.

Have fun! It sounds like a great trip.
