Orlando, Florida… What to do!?
So I’m going to Orlando for new years… what are some awesome things to see within the span of 10 days!? We’ll be going from the 31st to the 9th of January. Other than Disney World (Which, if you know which rides are the BEST, please let me know in your answer!) what are some great things to do and see in orlando florida and the surrounding areas?! There is a 20 year old, an 18 year old and a 12 year old as well as my parents who are over 40. Let me know!
Thanks!! And also, is it too cold to swim in florida now? We’re staying in a house we recently bought which has a heated pool as well as a jacuzzi. Let me know. Thanks all!
I’m assuming that you guys are experienced Orlando visitors? Afterall, if your family BOUGHT a vacation home, then hopefully you didn’t do it sight-unseen. Also assuming that you come from money, thus some suggestions will not be cheap. Finally, "awesome" is a pretty strong term. I mean, at least for me, jumping out of a plane, whitewater rafting down the Colorado, chartering a boat and reeling in Marlin, now that’s what I call awesome.
BTW, before I forget, here’s the answers to your ancillary questions as well as some helpful tips:
> Avoid the major parks on the 31st & 1st—too busy (unless you "have to" for NY’s celebration, fireworks, etc.). Crowds will mass-exodus starting the 2nd.
> If the pool’s heater isn’t already set when you arrive, do so immediately if needed (it takes several hrs for the pool to heat up). Regardless of chilly temps, a heated pool & jacuzzi will be lots of fun.
Some of the following suggestions will be "awesome", some will simply be "fun & different". Hopefully, they’ll all be things you haven’t already done:
> Skyventure Orlando: Indoor skydiving in their wind tunnel. OK for virtually all ages. This attraction is even used by professional skydivers to practice their moves. Just off of I-Drive (International Drive, Orlando).

> Richard Petty Driving Experience @ WDW Speedway: You can choose to simply do a ride-along, in a NASCAR racer, @ 165-mph’s (min age=14). OR, if you’re 18, you can get trained & drive yourself (expensive).

> Gatorland: OK, not exactly the most refined attraction, but if you wanna see the largest gators in captivity (some close to 16′), then this is the place. No more than several hrs to do. Get your picture taken holding a small gator, try some gator meat. Orlando address, but closer to Kissimmee. You can also do a package deal where you can combine Gatorland with an actual airboat ride/tour at one of the big lakes in Kissimmee/St. Cloud (Lake Toho or East Lake Toho).

> Dinner show: Quite a few to choose from. All are basically corny, but you gotta take them for what their worth—an alternative family fun-night out w/dinner & show. The old stand-by is Medieval Times (Kissimmee), but if you wanna do something unique, try Sleuth’s Mystery Dinner Show.

> Clearwater Beach: Weather permitting, you might wanna consider investing on a 2-hr drive to do a beach along the Gulf. Don’t bother w/Daytona. Clearwater is best suited for tourists who don’t want to drive too far from Orlando, but want a better beach than Daytona. Just go to Pier-60 and everything will become obvious after that.

> Orlando Premium Outlets, International Drive (fka Orlando Prime Outlet, fka Belz Factory Outlet Mall): The largest outlet mall in the Southeast. There’s 2 in Orlando. The largest is the one @ the northern tip of I-Drive.

> VariAsian Crazy Buffet: Asian-Fusion buffet to end all other buffets. I can almost guarantee you that you’ve never been to a Chinese buffet like this one. Upscale. Kinda far. Don’t know where your house is, but I’d guess 45-min in free-flowing traffic.

Could go on & on. Just some ideas that aren’t so cliche. Hope it helps.
