Orlando, Florida. Where best to escape Disneyland for a few days?
I am going on a family holiday to Orlando in Feb 2009 to do the whole Disney thing. My partner and I would like to escape for a few days to somewhere quieter, can anyone suggest a good place to go within reasonable driving distance?
daytona is lovely and about a hour and a half away it a really nice town and you can drive along the beach for a small fee park up and have a picnic, there is also the daytona race way there for something a bit different.
a real place to get away from the hustle and busle of disney
St.Petes Beach or Clearwater beach-both out on the Gulf coast and very close together, they are beautiful places and at that time of the year will be very quiet. It’s about an hour drive to the Gulf via Tampa Bay.
I say Clearwater Beach. Look it up on line. You’ll love it! Its my fave beach, I live in Orlando.
Anywhere on the Gulf Coast, like Clearwater, St. Petersberg, Tampa areas. There are beaches closer on the east coast, but they aren’t as nice as the ones on the west coast.
Anywere on the gulf of mexico coast clearwater to st petes beach about 100-130 miles from orlando down i-4 to tampa then on to the beaches.
Go to Clearwater they have a fabulous beach, golden sands, piers, and pelicans. Then if you get a bit bored and fancy some theme park thrills you are right by Busch Gardens with everything from lions on the savanna to thrill rides
Daytona Beach theres also NASA space station nearby. I personally would go to the Keys, its about 450 miles but well worth the drive, just make sure there are no special events happening when you go as you wont get a room – best to book in advance.
